Dad Shout Out! – The New Dad Stroller Walk

Last year, I started the Dad Shout Out column. From time to time I share some cool dads that are putting maximum effort when it comes to fatherhood. This time I wanted to give a Dad Shout Out to the new dad who is taking his baby out to the store. I was going into a store around the same time a family was headed that way. In the parking lot I noticed how meticulous the new dad was as he put his baby carrier into the stroller. As he walked towards the store I noticed that he had the new dad stroller walk down.

The New Dad Stroller Walk

As we were both walking to the store, this man had his head on a swivel. He was locked in and had a great stride walking into the store. He was not walking too fast or too slow. This new dad had the right pace where he could stop on a dime if he needed to. The speed was not going to jostle his baby around. He was built for this role as a dad. I gave him the dad nod to go first through the door with his family. He returned the nod to show his appreciation. As I got into the store we went our separate ways.

Knowing What To Do

As I was going to check out, we crossed paths again. He and his family were still shopping, but he was still commanding the stroller. He checked on his baby to make sure everything was okay. This new dad was loving his new role. Now I want to be clear. I am not highlighting this dad because he is pushing a stroller around a store and doing a normal thing that all parents do. I am giving him a shout-out because of the way he was interacting with his baby. He was a new dad. Thankfully, he was not on his phone. He was locked in. I could tell he really cared about being a good dad. That is why he gets a Dad Shout Out!

  1. Great piece here, Art. I remember taking my kids out shopping for the first time when they were babies. It was a crazy and new experience.

  2. I love that you’re constantly looking for the good out there and uplifting the things that people love but don’t always get to talk about.
