These Dads Are Doing It Right – Part 249 – The Fatherhood Project

This week for the These Dads Are Doing It Right series I want to highlight an organization called The Fatherhood Project. It is a Massachusetts-based program that empowers fathers to become more knowledgeable, active, and emotionally engaged with their children. Members Of The Fatherhood Project

Dr. Raymond Levy 

Dr. Ray Levy is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. In addition he has 33 years of clinical experience working with men and fathers. Dr. Levy founded The Fatherhood Project. He looked to continue his clinical work, to develop programs that teach fathers key relationship skills to raise healthy children. Plus he wanted to educate parents and professionals about the critical role fathers play in children’s lives. He is also the Principal Investigator for the project research on the specific importance of good fathering for positive outcomes in children’s lives. In June, 2012, he attended the White House’s Champions of Change Father’s Day meeting with other national leaders. Dr. Levy has raised a son and a daughter and has made his experience of fathering a central part of his life.

John Badalament 

John is a recognized leader in the fatherhood field who brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and innovation to The Fatherhood Project. He is the author of The Modern Dads Dilemma: How To Stay Connected With Your Kids In A Rapidly Changing World and the Director of the acclaimed documentary for PBS All Men Are Sons: Exploring the Legacy of Fatherhood. John’s work has been featured on ABC News, National Public Radio and in Men’s Health Magazine, The Los Angeles Times and Huffingtonpost.com. He lives with his wife and two children outside of Boston.

Milton Kotelchuck

Milton Kotelchuck is a PhD, MPH. He is currently Senior Scientist in Maternal and Child Health at the Center for Child & Adolescent Health Research and Policy. That is located in MassGeneral Hospital for Children. In addition he is a Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. He was formerly Chairman of the MCH Depts. at the UNC-Chapel Hill and Boston University. Milton received his PhD in Personality and Developmental Psychology and an MPH in MCH and Epidemiology from Harvard University. He has extensive experience evaluating public health programs and policies to improve birth outcomes and child health. His research interests include examination of racial disparities in birth outcomes and child health. Plus he evaluates the adequacy and content of pre-conception and prenatal and inter-conception care. He also researches child health services; home visiting, child nutrition; fatherhood; and health data policy.

William Cabrera

William, “Billy” Cabrera is the owner of Billy’s Barbershop and Founder of TFP partner The Resource and Reclamation Center.  Billy’s vision is to offer a safe place for individuals with a history of substance use to come and get assistance.  A mission in his long term recovery to offer assistance without stigma. Billy is using his experience and knowledge in addiction and incarceration to help others navigate their journey as well as educate the community.
