Trevor Jones never thought of himself as a fashion icon. In high school and college he never wore trendy brands or styles. He didn’t pay too much attention to his clothes. All he cared about was that his clothes smelled good and fit well on him. Now as a dad he could care even less about fashion. He wanted his kids to be happy with their clothes. So he tried to get them the latest and greatest. He did remember that his kids would always talk about how a musician or actor that they looked up to would go against the grain when it came to a wardrobe. If you were doing something different you were a fashion icon. To Trevor’s own surprise, he had a moment of clarity and now thinks of himself as a fashion icon.
Dad Becomes Fashion Icon
Jones would always be listening to sports talk radio or podcasts. He would perk up when people on those shows would mention a certain fashion trend. Apparently the way he was wearing his hat was shunned by society. Trevor would chuckle when he would hear people say that if you are over 25 years old and wear your baseball cap backwards you need to rethink your life choices. At first he took offense to those saying that, but he remembered what his kids told him about what makes someone a fashion icon. So using his kids have told him, he now proudly wears his hat backwards and considers himself a fashion icon.
Is He A Trendsetter?
The way his kids gave him the biggest eye-rolls he has ever seen, made him believe even more that he is a fashion icon. His kids told him that is not how it works. People have to call you an icon. You can’t declare yourself an icon. Trevor quickly responded that he was going against society by calling himself an icon. He told his kids about all the different podcasts and radio shows about grown men wearing their hats backwards. One of his kids asked him why he started to wear his hat backwards. Trevor told them about an old Sylvester Stallone movie called Over the Top. In that movie Stallone’s character, Lincoln Hawk, would turn his cap backward as a symbolic “switch” to transform from a sensitive dad into a macho arm-wrestling champion.

His kids laughed a little about that, but they did tell him that he should wear his hat the way he wants to. He agreed and smiled knowing that he might now be a fashion icon to not only his kids, but dads everywhere who wear their hats backwards.
