This week’s episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has me going through all kinds of emotions. When I see Rafa Martez treating her sister, Trace more like a hired hand than a family member I start to cringe. Rafa is a fast talking schemer that even Han Solo and Lando Calrissian would give a side eye to. Dave Filoni and his team are so good at creating interesting characters that you either love or love to hate. Rafa Martez is great example of that. Once you watch this episode you will know what I mean.
When An Opportunity Turns Into A Bad Deal
When Trace Martez pilots her prized ship on a mysterious job arranged by her sister Rafa, Ahsoka is alarmed to learn they are transporting for the evil Pyke Syndicate. Fearing that her ship may be at risk, Trace makes a rash decision that puts them all in peril in Deal No Deal, an all-new episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
A rash decision is putting it mildly. Trace is impulsive like her older sister, but her motives are very different than Rafa. This unlikely trio of Ahoska, Trace and Rafa are pulling each other in different directions that I am very curious to see how this all turns out. I have a feeling that Rafa will find out that Ahoska is a Jedi and will use that as leverage in the future. I hope I am wrong on this one.
The Star Wars Universe Binds The Galaxy Together
One of the many things that I love about the Star Wars universe is how it is all connected. From the past to the present to the future the stories and characters all seem connected. In Deal No Deal we see glimpses into the future in a few scenes. One scene that has this symmetry is between Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka. I don’t want to spoil it, but we see many ties into the original trilogy when Skywalker and his former Padawan share a moment together. It made me smile and reminisce about another connection Anakin had with someone else in the Star Wars universe.
The connections in this episode don’t just revolve around Anakin, but there are nods to Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando with some of the dialogue. My daughters and I caught these while watching the show together. I love the fact that it wasn’t just me seeing that connection, but my daughters are picking up on them as well.
Just like in the past episodes from this season, Deal No Deal is another hit. From the trips to familiar planets and nods to the movies this episode has me wanting more. My youngest said, “Wait! That is it?” when the episode ended. We are given a very nice cliffhanger at the end of this episode. Now we just have to wait and see what happens next week.
