Collector Of The Week – An Incredible Collection Of All Things Pop Culture

A new week means a new post for Collector of the Week here at The Art of Fatherhood. As a fellow geek and collector of all things Pop Culture I wanted to showcase some cool collections that dads share in our community. We talk about the latest movies, cards, comic books and video games that we are enjoying at the moment.

This Week’s Collector – Vernon Gibbs II – Pop Culture Comes Alive

This week’s collection is from Vernon Gibbs. He and I met in this parenting space. He is a great dad and we started talking about a ton of geeky stuff from movies to comic books. I reached out to him because I knew he would have an awesome collection. Here is what Vernon wrote.

I started collecting toys from the early 80s when I got my first G.I. Joe figure. He was an African-American character named Stalker and I played with him until he broke. I was hooked on toys since then. As I’ve gotten older and now that I have kids, funds are limited so I can’t collect as much as I would like. I am able to add to my collection and feel nostalgia since so many companies are revisiting classic toy lines like ThunderCats, Transformers and G.I. Joe. There are brand new lines It’s like mythic Legions and there’s even a new gargoyles line based on the classic Disney TV series.  I’m a bit more selective in the toys I buy these days, but it’s a great time to be collector.

Thanks for sharing your amazing collection Vernon. The variety is outstanding and really enjoyed your story on how you started collecting. Make sure you follow Vernon on Twitter at @coolminivandad1.

Whatcha Got?

It can be comic books, bottle caps, records, helmets or whatever you are into! I want to see what your passion is and why you started up that collection. For me, I believe that in each collection lies a better story. I want to share your story! Feel free to reach out to me and share your collection.  If you enjoyed this post check out another Collector of the Week article.
