The Life Lessons You Learn From Coaching Your Kid’s Team

Have you ever coached your child’s team? From T-ball to soccer to basketball I was lucky enough to coach both of my daughters on their respective teams. No matter what sport you teach them, there are so many life lessons that you learn from coaching your kid’s team. In addition, even though coaching can cause headaches, you will cherish those years you were fortunate to spend even more time with your kids. I would love to hear what you have learned when you coached your children over the years. Please leave your comments in the section below.

Life Lessons On Both Sides

Playing sports teaches you so many things on an individual level. No matter what age you are, you never stop learning as you keep pushing yourself to a higher level. When you are coaching your kids, you learn even more. You get to see your child in a different light. You are able to see how your child develops certain skills that are associated with that particular sport. Moreover you can watch your child learn how to work and play with others. Team building is such an important trait that will help them in life. They will feel that they can do so much more because their team is supporting them. It is a fantastic feeling when you witness your child gain confidence when they overcome a hurdle. It helps you as a parent let go and have your child write their own story.

What Parents Learn From Coaching Their Child

Most coaches will tell you that they learn the virtue of patience when coaching. Each kid on that team learns in a different way. Some can learn by just listening. Others need you and the other coaches to demonstrate a new move or play. Not only are they learning, but you have to adapt to each of their learning styles. The more you do that, the stronger the team becomes as they grow throughout the season. As you work on your own skill of being patient, your team will follow your lead. Moreover, you will teach your team how to handle pressure and not get upset when things don’t go their way.

If I wrote about all the lessons you learn while coaching this article would be as long as the book, War and Peace. It might sound like I am exaggerating, but trust me for those who have coached their kid’s team they would agree with me. If you are coaching your kid’s baseball or softball team make sure you check out SLIDEMVP. As a dad and coach, inspired by some awkward slides and makeshift cardboard sliding tools, Coach Robby asked: “How can I help players slide better?” After countless brainstorming sessions and prototypes, the SLIDEMVP was born. You and your team will benefit from SLIDEMVP. You will be able to teach your team the proper and safe way to slide. In addition, your team will learn valuable lessons as your team continues to improve and play the right way.
