These Dads Are Doing It Right – Part 184 – Fathers Making Progress

This week for the These Dads Are Doing It Right series I want to share with you some great dad organizations. These groups like Fathers Making Progress are all about making guys the best dads that they can be. They do this with different programs that offer to guys in their community. In addition, if there are any other dads that you think we should check out leave their name and info in the comment section below.

Fathers Making Progress

Their mission is to improve the community and generational cycles through strengthening fathers. Their movement services families primarily through creating spaces of learning, support, and growth for fathers. The fathers they help become integral parts of their family and their communities. FMP works to ensure that fathers have an avenue to stand in the gaps to help their families be successful. To learn more go to their website at fathersmakingprogress.org.

The Village for Families and Children

In Connecticut there is a fatherhood program under The Village for Families and Children group. They are dedicated to working with fathers to help them raise strong children that will be the future of our state. The Village has operated its Fatherhood Engagement Services since 2019. More than 200 men have completed the program, which is meant to teach positive parenting to fathers. Fathers in the program meet regularly in group sessions and talk about parenting skills.

FAM: Fathers Achieving Mindfulness

D’Angelo Reynolds created FAM: Fathers Achieving Mindfulness. It’s an online and in-person space for local dads to build relationships, shape characters and remodel their communities. D’Angelo believes that every man has a road that he has to go down and every step of the way, if he’s not trying to achieve some kind of mindfulness, that he’s kind of just wasting time. They plan group events like flag football, crafts with their kids and community service. Now, FAM has a podcast and book club, and maintains online discussions. In addition, Reynolds said they talk about everything to how to season a grill to how to battle an addiction.

The Dad Project

The Direct Assistance to Dads (DAD) Project is a free, voluntary program. It provides home visits to fathers and their families in Milwaukee. The DAD Project uses the evidenced based Parents as Teachers home visiting model. It provides parent support, identify potential child hood delays and improve school readiness. They do this by working with fathers and their families to identify their goals. In addition they are supporting these fathers in their efforts to meet their goals.
