This week for the These Dads Are Doing It Right series I am highlighting dads and their kids that work as a sports broadcasters. These kids are following their dad’s footsteps and even going further in their careers. These broadcaster duos do fantastic work! Kevin Harlan And Olivia Harlan Dekker

Kevin Harlan told his kids that the sports broadcasting industry is a tough one to succeed in for a career. There is a lot of competition. Yet, his daughter, Olivia wanted to pursue a career that was similar to her father’s career path. Hard work and determination helped both Olivia and Kevin succeed in this industry. I recently spoke with Kevin on my Art of Fatherhood podcast and he is very proud of all of his kids. He did share a special moment with Olivia when they both covered this past season’s Super Bowl when the Chiefs played the 49ers. 

Mike Golic And Mike Golic Jr.

Another guest on the Art of Fatherhood podcast, Mike Golic has his son, Mike Golic Jr. work in the sports broadcasting industry. In addition, they worked together on the ESPN morning show. After they left ESPN they now have their own show where the talk about sports and so much more. They have a great chemistry on their show. The entire Golic Family has a podcast where they share some fun and memorable moments. Make sure you check out both of their podcasts. 

Ian Eagle And Noah Eagle

Ian joined CBS Sports in March 1998 as a play-by-play announcer for the CBS Television Network’s coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship and was named lead play-by-play announcer for NCAA men’s basketball in 2023. He has called play-by-play for the Network’s coverage of the National Football League since 1998. His son, Noah joined NBC Sports in 2023 as the play-by-play voice of Big Ten Saturday Night. In his first year with NBC Sports, he called an NFL Wild Card Game and an NFL regular season game on NBC and Peacock, and the first season of Big Ten Men’s Basketball on Peacock. Eagle also called Super Bowl LVIII on Nickelodeon in February 2024.

Dan Shulman And Ben Shulman

Dan Shulman is play-by-play commentator for men’s college basketball and Major League Baseball telecasts on ESPN. Shulman calls Saturday Primetime men’s college basketball games alongside analyst Jay Bilas and provides commentary for some of the top matchups throughout the season. He also calls regular season MLB games for the network and is the voice of the World Series and additional MLB Postseason series on ESPN Radio. Ben Shulman is the new voice of the Toronto Blue Jays. Ben is only the seventh regular radio play-by-play caller in the 48-season history of the franchise.
