This week for the These Dads Are Doing It Right series I am showcasing some fatherhood movies that are done be great director dads. A divorced, Jewish father from Chicago, finds himself living in Germany to be with his only daughter. He won’t abandon her like his own father did to him. He decides to open up a Jewish Deli in a small town known for Antisemitism and was a beehive of Nazi activity during WW2. What could go wrong? David Fortune – Color Book
Color Book follows Lucky, a single father. With his wife’s recent passing Lucky finds himself navigating the challenges of raising his son Mason, who has Down syndrome. Mason is an exuberant 11-year-old boy who enjoys drawing in his color book and watching baseball with his dad. Seeking solace, Lucky and Mason embark on a journey across Metro Atlanta to attend their first baseball game together. Despite the setbacks they experienced, they persevere, determined to reach the game. Together, Lucky and Mason learn that healing does not await them at the mountaintop, but can be found with every step along the path.
Thomas Pickelner & Marino Manzoni – DaddyHood Adventure
To inspire more dads to play an active role in their children’s lives, Marino and Thomas took up a challenge. They were getting around the scenic island of Krk in Croatia by running, cycling, and hiking 150 kilometers in seven days. The catch? They were with their 2-year-old toddlers! This story will inspire parents, especially fathers, to be more present and creative when spending time with their children. The film sparks discussion about the meaning of equal parenting and the important role fathers have in their children’s upbringing.
