This week for the These Dads Are Doing It Right series I am highlighting father figures who are helping out communities. These organizations are helping out families that need assistance in different areas. For more on that festival check out their website here. Father Figures
Father Figures Inc. Mission is to mentor and assist the youth. In addition they look to help out their families and community. They do this through guidance, leadership, acceptance and direction within the community and abroad. With their dedication, the assistance of organizations, communities and individuals, Father Figures Inc. vision is to see a brighter and safer future for all of our youth, their families and the community. The Illinois Fatherhood Initiative
The Illinois Fatherhood Initiative) is the country’s first state-wide non-profit fatherhood organization. Founded in 1997, the IFI provides resources and programming to help dads take an active role in the education of their children. Some 24 million children and 1.1 million in Illinois alone, are growing up in fatherless homes. Therefore, the IFI was founded to address the increasing problem of father absence in society. D.A.D. Project
Donald P. Williams has a passion for fatherhood. The D.A.D. Project began when Donald moved back to Los Angeles, CA from Slidell, LA. Donald look to reconnect with his father. Being the eldest of four brothers helped him understand the importance of having a strong family unit. Therefore, that’s where his passion met his purpose and lead them to start the D.A.D Project. This group helps every child look to build lasting relationships with their fathers. D.A.D Project’s mission is to support children and families who may not have access to high quality education. They help with food, and other life essential resources. In addition, they are into building strong corporate and community partnerships is their way of leveling the playing field. When this is done children who may feel “left out” or value themselves as “less than” are empowered to chase their dreams!”
My Daddy Taught Me That
My Daddy Taught Me That is a program designed to support the development, uplift, and education of youth. The organization’s focus is to teach young men how to transition from the young teen into responsible young men. They are focusing on good decision making, accepting responsibility, and being accountable for their actions. This is facilitated through educational group sessions and discussions. In addition, there are hands-on activities and programs, and the introduction to innovative and unique events. MDTMT will mentor, build self-esteem, confidence, and eliminate barriers.
