If you have ever been on LinkedIn you might have noticed someone making an announcement. It could be a new job or a milestone that they recently accomplished at work or at school. Over the past few years it seems as though LinkedIn has turned from a professional networking site to Instagram Light. A lot of humble brags are being shared. In addition, many people use it as a virtual soapbox on a topic they feel that needs to be addressed. I recently came across an announcement that seemed perfect for Facebook, but there it was on LinkedIn. It made me wonder if eventually parents would use that platform to share news about their kid’s milestones.
LinkedIn Birth Announcements
Becoming a parent is one of the most life changing moments you can ever experience. I heard lovely stories from my guests on the Art of Fatherhood podcast when they found out they were becoming a dad. They share what it was like to hold their child for the first time. The transformation they felt as they were in charge of this new life. I enjoy hearing these stories from my guests. So why not share the happy news on LinkedIn. It wouldn’t surprise me if that site created a banner for someone becoming a parent.
Updating Your Kid’s Skills List
When you take a class or earn a certification, people tend to share that on LinkedIn. They will take a picture of said certification or accomplishment and share it with the world. Plus you can be sure that they update the skills section on their page. That way they can let everyone know that they are more valuable to a potential new employer with the knowledge they just learned. So I feel there should be some templates for kids who are potty trained or just learned how to ride a bike. Think of the pride as a parent you will have as you not only share that badge of honor, but you get to update their skills section.
Humble Brags & Shenanigans
I think it would be funny if kids added some of their own humble brags on LinkedIn. Imagine if the grandparents were watching their grandkids one evening. The parents had a night out to themselves. A kid logs on to their account and posts something that in their mind would be a flex. There would be an abundance of odd status updates and people would do a double take while scrolling that site. Just imagine a kid telling the world that they had cupcakes for dinner because his grandparents are softies.
