How do you connect with your kids? Our kids have so many things that are fighting for their attention. From tablets to video games to TikTok our kids have many distractions that we are competing with each day. My wife and I do our best to be there for our kids. As our kids get older we want to show them that we believe in them. We do this by giving them more responsibilities. One way that is done is having them help us cook meals.
Let’s Get Cooking
Besides teaching them how to cook, which is a very important life skill I get a lot out of this time together. I have one on one time with my daughters as we prepare a meal. We get to chat about school, their friends and a bunch of other topics. This is quality time that I have with them without any distractions.
My kids also tend to be more excited to eat a meal that they prepared with me. They get to see the time and effort that goes into making a meal. So there are less eye rolls and asking, “Do we have to eat this?” when they are part of the process of cooking a meal.
Mixing It Up
As a work from home dad I am always looking for dinner recipes that my family will be excited to eat. I do ask them what new recipes they would like to try out and one we recently came up with was mixing up pizza with ravioli. We are all fans of pizza and pasta so we wanted to try a new take on two favorites.
This past weekend my oldest daughter and I made this meal. We were excited to see how it would taste. We were wondering if we would get more a pizza vibe or would the ravioli taste come out on top? As we made the meal my daughter added a few suggestions to the recipe and what we could have with it. We talked about her week at school and what she was most excited to do over the summer. I really enjoyed the time I had with her while we cooked this meal.
The recipe is a very simple one and it allowed us to focus more on our conversations than having to worry about the food prep. When the meal was ready I couldn’t wait to get my family’s reaction to the new dish. My oldest said it tasted like a meat lovers pizza. My youngest liked the chicken and mozzarella mixture in the ravioli. During the meal we talked about other recipes we could try out. I really enjoyed making dinner with my daughter. These are the moments that I live for as a dad.
If you are looking for a meal that your whole family will love and doesn’t take all day to make our pizza ravioli is the recipe for you. I posted the recipe below! We hope you enjoy it.
Please note: I was compensated for this post by Three Bridges, but my thoughts are my own.
