The Other Family Members That Really Care About You

For a lot of families there are members that might not get enough acknowledgement. Yet these family members are very important to the dynamics in that household. They tend to get a bad rap. Some people say that these members are loners. They also are the ones that get filmed the most and uploaded to social media without their permission. Any guesses? Of course I am talking about cats. Over the years my wife and I have adopted cats and they were and are a big part of our family. Our two cats, Judy and Galaxy are very important to our family and how they came to our family is a story in itself. 

A “Purrfect” Match In Our Family

After my family and I moved to North Carolina and we settled in, we wanted to adopt one cat. I went to different shelters looking for a cat. After a few places that didn’t have cats, I stopped at one place that looked promising. I got a tour of the place from the manager. While I was getting the tour, I spoke about cats I had in the past as well as my wife’s cats she had over the years. The manager led me into a room that was full of kittens. She opened one gate and let the cats out. I was sitting on the floor and one of the kittens jumped on my shoulder and started to sniff me and check me out. 

As I learned more about the cat, I found out it’s name was Judy. That was my mom’s name. Then the manager told me when the cats were born. My facial expression caused the manager to ask me if their birthday date was significant. I nodded and said it was my wife’s birthday. The manager said it looks like this cat chose you. I agreed. My family and I got to visit Judy and fell in love with her as well as her sister, Galaxy. At that point we were now going to adopt two kittens. 

Part Of The Family 

Those who have pets can agree with me that pets are an important part of the family. They want to be included in things. In addition they find unique ways to show their affection and love. A few years ago when I was in the hospital, Judy stayed under me and my wife’s bed for the most part until I came home. If someone is upset in the house the cats will make sure things are okay. We are very blessed to have two wonderful cats and we look at both of them as important members of the family.
