Christmas is almost here. Kids are excited to see what Santa will bring them. Parents are looking forward to having some quality time with family and friends. One of the biggest pains comes from the wrapping paper. Not only are you wrapping the presents for Christmas Day, but on that special day you are surrounded by an aftermath of ripped paper and empty boxes. The kids are enjoying all their presents, while you have to tackle this mess. Luckily someone came along to help solve that issue. Jim Williams came up with a clever idea to make this problem go away.
Basketball Themed Garbage & Recycling Bins
Jim shares his ah-ha moment. He said, “I was tired of not living in the moment on Christmas Day with my family. I was too busy holding a garbage bag in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. I was picking up pieces of wrapping paper after every present. Last year I thought to myself that there has to be a better way.”

Jim was inspired by his son’s school waste system. The school created a recycling bin and garbage bin tandem set in every classroom. He was impressed by the design. Therefore he started to create some drawings back in his garage. The biggest issue that was standing in his way was how he would get his kids to participate in taking care of the wrapping paper after each gift, While he was staring out into the driveway, he was inspired by their basketball hoop. For each bin he attached some small basketball backboards. Moreover, his kids could crumple up the paper into mini basketballs and aim for the bins.
A Slam Dunk Of An Idea
This Christmas was different for Jim and his family. Jim did not have to hold garbage bags the whole time and separate the trash from recycling. In addition, his kids loved seeing who scored the most points after each present. Jim’s wife, Debbie, smiled at him as he was so proud of his invention. He had more time to enjoy Christmas morning. Therefore, the two were able to cuddle on the couch and enjoy watching their kids open their presents. Plus they didn’t have to worry about the mess from all that ripped up wrapping paper.
