In this week’s episode of The Clone Wars we continue to see more of the Ahsoka Tano and Martez sisters story arc. In this episode we learn why Trace and Rafa are not fans of the Jedi Order. We saw a bit of their animosity towards the Jedi when Ahsoka first met Trace. Now Tano learns more about them as we see what makes each sister tick.
A Dangerous Debt To Pay
After being imprisoned by the Pykes, Ahsoka Tano and the Martez sisters manage a daring escape of their stronghold. Together they flee through the city to their ship, desperate to evade the Pyke forces in pursuit in Dangerous Debt.
In this episode we continue to see Ahsoka wrestle with her Jedi past and finding her new identity. What complicates this even more is when she learns why the Martez sisters dislike the Jedi. The conflict in Ahsoka is seen throughout this episode. She does use her Force powers from time to time when there is no other option. She even uses the Force in front of Trace and Rafa one time in this episode. Thankfully she doesn’t have to explain since they are running from the Pyke forces.
We even get to see some Mandalorians in this episode as they recognize Ahsoka running from her attackers. I feel like we will see them more of the Mandalorians in future episodes.
A Certain Point Of View
One of themes that I have been speaking about in this season of The Clone Wars is the connection to the Star Wars universe. The Jedi are always talking about finding their own truths from a certain point of view. Ahsoka left the Jedi Order when she felt betrayed by the Council. Yet we see another point of view when the Martez sisters share their tragic story.
Tano learns that during a fight between the Jedi and Ziro the Martez sister’s parents died from the damage that was caused in that fight. They even tell her that one Jedi who I think we all know who was referenced said to them that they had no other choice and that the Force will be with them. You see the hurt in Tano’s face as she learns about the death of their parents. The Jedi are not seen as heroes and guardians of peace to everyone. This is a lesson Ahsoka will learn time after time since leaving the Jedi Order. We see the results of these experiences when she returns in Star Wars Rebels.
