Collector Of The Week – A Collection Of The Future With NFT’s

A new week means a new post for Collector of the Week here at The Art of Fatherhood. As a fellow geek and collector of all things Pop Culture I wanted to showcase some cool collections that dads share in our community. We talk about the latest movies, cards, comic books and video games that we are enjoying at the moment.

This Week’s Collector – Mike Armstrong – Collecting NFT’s With The Kids

This week’s collection is from Mike Armstrong. He started collecting non-fungible tokens also know as NFT’s. It is a new form of collecting and Mike shares his story of how he got into it.

Earlier this year, there was a lot of hype about NBA Topshot. I got into NBA Topshot when its market was at its peak, and have been collecting moments since. Not long after, I started looking into what other Non Fungible Token (NFT) and digital collectible projects were out there. I soon came across Veve. Veve makes limited edition, serialized digital collectibles that can be purchased, sold and displayed in showrooms on their app. It’s also blockchain/cryptocurrency based. Veve has licensing agreements with tons of big name brands and artists. Depending on the rarity and the collectible, the cost of them can go into the hundreds or even thousands of “gems”, the in-app currency (1 gem = $1US).

For me, I really enjoy Veve, and I have a decent, ever evolving collection. As of this writing,  I have about 70 collectibles. Everyone has their own strategies, but I just collect what I like. My favorite are my Batman Who Laughs, and my Golden Homer and Bart. If I no longer want a collectible, I just sell it in the marketplace.  My youngest son gets a kick out the AR stuff, too, so it’s fun to goof around with pictures of him.

That is a great collection Mike. Thank you for introducing us into a new era of collecting. Make sure you check out his website at daddyrealness.com.

Whatcha Got?

It can be comic books, bottle caps, records, helmets or whatever you are into! I want to see what your passion is and why you started up that collection. For me, I believe that in each collection lies a better story. I want to share your story! Feel free to reach out to me and share your collection.  If you enjoyed this post check out another Collector of the Week article. This one is about an amazing Aquaman collection.
