Collector Of The Week – Soccer Scarf Collection Turned Into An Obsession

A new week means a new post for Collector of the Week here at The Art of Fatherhood. As a fellow geek and collector of all things Pop Culture I wanted to showcase some cool collections that dads share in our community. We talk about the latest movies, a scarf collection, cards, comic books and video games that we are enjoying at the moment.

This Week’s Collector – Jeff Bogle’s Soccer Scarf Collection Turned Obsession

This week’s collection is from Jeff Bogle. He writes about music, fatherhood, travel, soccer and more. Jeff is recently a published author and you can check out his work HERE. He is sharing his soccer scarf collection.

It started accidentally yet was incredibly functional! I was in England, it was winter, it was so incredibly cold, and I was outside at my first Premier League football match! So I bought a home team scarf to help me stay warm during the 90’ and to blend in with the locals. Fast forward five years and I am the proud, albeit slightly obsessed owner of over 50 soccer scarves.

Listen, some guys get into cars or sneakers but me, I became a soccer fanatic in 2010. I love the game and love it even more when I’m in the stands watching matches unfold in person. I soon began buying a home team scarf from every match I attended, from MLS games in Portland, Los Angeles and Atlanta to Europa Conference League international matches in Iceland featuring two teams I previously had never heard of! Of course I have a scarf from my favorite club, Fulham FC in West London, as well as scarves from Norwich City, Leeds United, Huddersfield Town, Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, Manchester United, Everton, Oxford United, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Wimbledon, plus so many more from across the massive English football pyramid.

More On His Collection

I used to have them all hung up vertically in my home, and organized by region, England, America, Norway, Spain, women’s leagues in the U.S. and U.K., and international matches, including the 7 FIFA Women’s World Cup matches I saw in France in 2019. Today, I have most of them stored safely away, with just my favorite clubs — Fulham, Norwich and the Philadelphia Union — scarves displayed in my NYC apartment. But I still buy them every time I am at a football ground for the first time. The most recent addition to my soccer scarf collectionwas a nice red and blue one from Valur, in Reykjavik Iceland!

Whatcha Got?

It can be comic books, bottle caps, records, helmets or whatever you are into! I want to see what your passion is and why you started up that collection. For me, I believe that in each collection lies a better story. I want to share your story! Feel free to reach out to me and share your collection.  If you enjoyed this post check out another Collector of the Week article.
