Please note: I teamed up with HBO Max for this article, but my thoughts are my own.
Alright fellow dads, I want you to weigh in on this. What are some of your favorite movies? We all know there are different movie categories us dads really enjoy watching. There are movies that you watch with your family. At times there are movies you watch with your spouse for date night. Then there are the movies you watch that take you back in time when you first saw that movie. Let me know your top five dad approved movies in the comment section below.
Family Night Dad Approved Movie
Jurassic Park
One movie that is great for everyone in the family is Jurassic Park. You can watch any from this movie franchise, but my family and I really enjoy the original one. The special effects still hold up today. Even though we may have watched it a dozen times, Jurassic Park is a film that we like to watch again and again. There are some catch phrases that we will yell out from time to time like, “What’s the matter, kid? You never had lamb chops?” For us this movie always finds a way.
Spies In Disguise
Anytime you put Will Smith into a movie you know you will have a good time. This goes for the animated film, Spies In Disguise. Super spy Lance Sterling, played by Will Smith and scientist Walter Beckett, played by Tom Holland are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is shy and bashful. But these two team up for the ultimate mission to save the world when Lance turns into a brave, fierce, majestic pigeon. We laughed a lot during this movie. The chemistry between Smith and Holland is fantastic. Both the parents and kids enjoy this film.
Date Night Approved Movie
Wedding Crashers
My wife and I enjoy a movie that makes us laugh. There can be some serious moments, but we like to enjoy our date night that is filled with laughter. One movie that fits that bill is Wedding Crashers. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson headline this great cast with crazy schemes and fantastic moments. This movie showcases a bunch of hilarious actors where we feel the director told them to just let loose and have fun. Wedding Crashers is a movie my wife and I will watch from time to time when we are lucky to spend time together when it is just us.
Dad Approved Movies
Demolition Man
What is your boggle? Taco Bell? Illuminate. There are so many great lines in that movie. We can never forget John Spartan asking, “The place where you’re supposed to have the toilet paper, you’ve got this little shelf with three seashells on it.” Besides those memorable lines, the movie takes a unique look at what happens when there is no crime. It seems like it would be a perfect world, but that peace doesn’t last forever. Besides Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes and Sandra Bullock the movie has a great cast. There is humor and a lot of action. This is always a go to movie for dads.
Ocean’s Eleven
Speaking of a great cast, Ocean’s Eleven is filled with a lot of stars that keep popping out like coins from a slot machine jackpot. The first iteration of this film came out in 1960 with the Rat Pack. This movie came out in 2001. It is headlined by George Clooney, Julia Roberts and Matt Damon. Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney, is a man of action. Less than 24 hours into his parole from a New Jersey penitentiary, he is already rolling out his next plan. Ocean lives by three rules: Don’t hurt anybody, don’t steal from anyone who doesn’t deserve it, and play the game like you’ve got nothing to lose. Danny orchestrates the most sophisticated, elaborate casino heist in history. Anytime I see this movie I will stop and watch it.

Great list Darren!
