I remember coming home from elementary school and sitting down in front of the TV to watch Masters of the Universe. It was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I would see He-Man take on Skeletor and his henchmen. They would battle each other for the rights of Castle Grayskull. I had all the figures. I remember my dad and I would be on the search for the action figures that were hard to find.
So fast forward a few years ago when we were moving. I came across a box with my old school Masters of the Universe toys. I saw the joy on my kid’s faces like I had when I was their age. They asked me about all of the characters and their powers. There is a special place in my soul for Masters of the Universe. Thanks to Kevin Smith, Ted Biaselli and Netflix we are graced with next chapter in the Masters of the Universe saga.
Masters Of The Universe Is A Masterpiece
I had the great pleasure of checking out the first five episodes of this series and interviewing Kevin Smith, which you can check out next Monday. It will be part of my Art of Fatherhood podcast series. From the very beginning of the first episode I was taken back to my childhood. The story that was unfolding in front of my eyes was something that my friends and I would have made up while playing with the action figures.
Kevin Smith, Ted Biaselli and the entire cast and crew respect the lore of this universe and characters. It is not a remake. It takes place after the original series. Things in Eternia start to crack and Smith takes us on a journey that beautifully harkens to the past, but brings us to a new chapter in Eternia. Yes, kids today will enjoy this series but I feel like this series is geared towards me and my generation.
There are nods to the past, there are jokes that kids from the 80’s will love and our beloved characters evolve into something so amazing that I can’t wait for the next five episodes. Now I know that there are people yelling about the show already that hasn’t even seen one episode. I see the vile online and social media, but just wait. In two days you will see the magic of Eternia. It will transform you back to your youth. These episodes will make you care about all of the characters, both good and bad. Trust me. As a kid growing up in the 80’s this show will make you smile and laugh. I am beyond grateful to Netflix and Ted Biaselli for asking Kevin Smith to be the executive producer. He cares about Eternia just like me.
Thank you to Kevin, Ted, Netflix and to the wonderful voice cast and animators. This is a show that spoke to me in so many ways. This show has the POWER!
About Masters Of The Universe: Revelation
The war for Eternia culminates in Masters Of The Universe: Revelation an innovative and action-packed animated series that picks up where the iconic characters left off decades ago. After a cataclysmic battle between He-Man and Skeletor, Eternia is fractured and the Guardians of Grayskull are scattered. And after decades of secrets tore them apart, it’s up to Teela to reunite the broken band of heroes, and solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power in a race against time to restore Eternia and prevent the end of the universe.
The trailer looks amazing. Can’t wait to see it tomorrow and check out your interview with Kevin Smith.
