These Dads Are Doing It Right – Part 220 – Fatherhood Foundations Supporting Families

This week for the These Dads Are Doing It Right series I want to highlight fatherhood foundations supporting families. These groups and organizations look to give advice or help dads and families. In addition, if there are any other dads that you think we should check out leave their name and info in the comment section below.

Fatherhood Foundations

Good+Foundation

Founded in 2001, Good+Foundation is a leading national non-profit. They work to dismantle multi-generational poverty. They do this by pairing tangible goods with innovative services for under-resourced fathers and mothers. Their foundation also help caregivers, creating an upward trajectory for the whole family. With warehouses in New York City and Los Angeles, Good+Foundation partners with approximately 126 innovative anti-poverty programs across the country. Their goal is to incentivize parental enrollment and participation. They have programs like counseling, health services, employment assistance, financial literacy, co-parenting classes, and more.

Vance Simms – Father Matters

Father Matters was founded by Vance Simms. The vision for this program came when Vance saw a tremendous need for the issue of fathering. Vance, has seen first hand the need for strong, positive mentoring among fathers. Being raised with out his father in his life, Vance has had to seek out positive role models for his direction in fatherhood. This type of positive influence is needed for ALL fathers, no matter of what the situation may be. Vance currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife Rana and their five kids.

Center for Family Policy and Practice

The mission of the Center for Family Policy and Practice (CFFPP) is to strengthen society. They do this through the expansion of opportunities for low-income parents – mothers and father. In addition they look to protect and support their children. CFFPP operates as a policy think tank. Similarly it helps remove the unique barriers and negative public perceptions that affect low-income men of color. For instance, this is done through technical assistance, policy research and analysis. They also teach and works to support low-income families and develop public awareness of their needs.

Fatherhood Foundation of Virginia

The Fatherhood Foundation of Virginia recognizes that the strength of our community and the future of our city lies in the health of the family, especially the fathers. In other words when our men are better prepared, marriages and families and stronger. Studies tell us that by having fathers active in the life of their families, poverty and crime goes down. In addition, the emotional wellness & educational success goes up. Therefore their purpose is driven to strengthen men to be better husbands/co-parents. They hope to create more active fathers for true systemic change in the Commonwealth.
