These Dads Are Doing It Right – Part 80 – Dad Groups Helping Out Communities   

This week’s for the Dads Doing It Right series I am highlighting dads who helping out families and communities. These organizations are making sure children are looked after through different programs. I salute these groups who are doing things right. MAD Dads – Helping Out Communities Around The Country 

MAD DADS is an acronym for Men Against Destruction-Defending Against Drugs and Social-Disorder. It was founded in May of 1989 by a group of concerned Omaha, Nebraska parents who were fed up with gang violence. They wanted to stop the flow of illegal drugs in our community. They present themselves as positive role models and concerned loving parents. In addition, they are a visible presence in our neighborhoods against the negative forces. MAD Dads started out of pain. It was the pain of children dying in the streets of their own communities. They realized that they could hold no one responsible for this but themselves. So they are united as a handful of community fathers who now know that they must be the change. Follow them at maddads.com. 

Fatherhood First – A Great Resource For Dads 

The mission of FatherhoodFirst.org is to help fathers develop positive relationships with their children. They look to help guys understand the importance of their presence in the lives of their children. At Fatherhood First, fathers are offers father/child activities. Some are in group and others in individual settings. There are one-on-one case management classes for new and expectant fathers. They have male involvement meetings to families within their community. Furthermore, FatherhoodFirst.org makes these resources and activities available to Head Start programs nationwide. Fatherville 

Fatherville.com is an online resource that supports, encourages, and challenges fathers in every stage of fatherhood. Fatherville’s mission and goal is to encourage men to become better fathers through the exchange of ideas. Therefore this exchange can take place in a number of ways. Some of those ways are via the online forum, written essays and contributed articles from other fathers.

Washington State Fathers Network

The Washington State Fathers Network connects men with other dads. They use resources, information and education, plus opportunities for “all family” celebrations. They focus is on assisting fathers as they become more competent and compassionate caregivers for their children with special needs. In addition, this network is the only regional program in the United States and Canada fully devoted to fathers of children with special health care needs and developmental disabilities. Since 1986 it has opened new doors of hope for thousands of men and their families, providing them with support and resources to be effective, nurturing dads.
