These Dads Are Doing It Right – Part 85 – Spotlight On The Final Four Dads  

This week’s for the Dads Doing It Right series I am going talk about the dads who are notable NCAA College Basketball Head Coaches. These dads are not only great coaches, but they try to lead by example at home. With the Final Four this weekend I thought it would be fitting if I talked about these four dads. In addition, if there are any other dads that you think we should check out leave their name and info in the comment section below.

Final Four Dads

Bill Self – Kansas Jayhawks

Bill Self is a household name in Kansas, but in his house he appreciates being a dad. He and his wife, Cindy, have two children. One daughter, Lauren, who graduated from KU in 2013. She is married to Hayden Browning. Their son, Tyler, went to school and played at Kansas from 2013-17. In addition, the Self’s also have two granddaughters: Ella and Phoebe, both daughters of Lauren and Hayden.

Hubert Davis – University Of North Carolina Tar Heels 

Hubert Davis was named the 20th head coach of the University of North Carolina men’s basketball program on April 5, 2021. Davis became the fourth former Tar Heel player to become UNC’s head coach and the first Black head coach in Carolina men’s basketball history. He and his wife, Leslie, have three children – Elijah, Gracie and Micah. Elijah will be playing basketball this season at the University of Lynchburg. 

Jay Wright – Villanova Wildcats 

In 20 seasons as Villanova’s Head Coach, Jay Wright has guided the Wildcats to new heights. Some of those highlights include NCAA national championships in 2016 and 2018. In addition, on May 16, 2021 it was announced that the 1983 Bucknell University graduate will be inducted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as part of its Class of 2021. Wright is married to Patricia. They have two sons, Taylor and Colin and a daughter Reilly. Patty and Jay Wright were honored with the inaugural Saint Augustine Medal in April 2017. Wright’s book Attitude, published in 2017, was a New York Times bestseller.

Mike Krzyzewski – Duke Blue Devils 

In 42 seasons at Duke, Mike Krzyzewski is a Naismith Hall of Fame coach. He is a five-time national champion and 12-time Final Four participant. Therefore, Coach K has built a dynasty that few programs in the history of the game can match. Mike and his wife, Mickie have three daughters, Debbie Savarino, Lindy Frasher and Jamie Spatola. They have nine grandchildren in total. Coach K is retiring from coaching after this year. He will go down in history as one of the best coaches of all time. Therefore, Mike will now have more time to spend with his family.
