One Saturday morning in late October I got up from my bed. Outside my window I smiled as it looked like an amazing fall day that was ahead of me. I quickly got dressed, ate breakfast and went outside. As I opened the garage door I looked around to see if any of my friends were outside. I didn’t see anyone playing hoops or riding bikes. So I jumped on my bike to do some exploring and see what adventures awaited me. I felt the cold, crisp air against my body as I flew by the mailboxes of houses in my neighborhood. You could tell what people were having for breakfast that day. Bacon and other scents filled the air as it mixed with someone having a fire pit in their backyard. I love the fall for so many reasons and the smells are at the top of that list. As I neared one of my best friend’s house, I saw him getting his bike ready.
Oh The Adventures You Will Have
I asked him if he wanted to ride our bikes in town and check out the comic book and card shop. He didn’t have to say anything. He jumped on his bike and followed my lead. We got into the center of the town to see all the people running errands or taking their kids to practice. We eventually made it to a comic book and card shop. As soon as we entered the store another one of my friends was there with his dad. We looked over the new boxes of comics and cards that were released that week. After some time browsing the store, we each got a few football card packs knowing that we would trade cards with each other if they got our favorite players.

We decided to check out the pizza joint that opened up recently to get a slice for lunch. The food was fine, but we were playing video games with some of the arcade machines that they stacked near each other in the corner of the restaurant. After all our quarters were gone, we got back on our bikes to go to one of the schools nearby. There are times where either the basketball courts or football fields had some type of game going on where we looked to get in on. After playing a few games it was time to head back home to see what was for dinner. I miss those days as a kid of just spending time outside and exploring all the possibilities for that day.
Share This Type Of Joy With Your Kids
If you are around my age or of any generation where you were exploring the outdoors with your family and friends, you remember how good we had it. We were not connected to devices. There were no playdates. We got on our bikes to see who was outside playing. Yeah, there would be the occasional times of playing video games here and there or watching TV. Most of the time we were outside playing games, exploring in the woods or creating jumps to see how much air we could catch with our bikes.
If you cherished these moments like I did when you were a kid, I have one question for you. Do you want your kids to experience those same feelings? I am guessing you do. Encourage your kids to get outside and play with their friends. Tell them to put down the tablets and smartphones. Stop binge watching shows and play back to back games of basketball or 21 or home run derby with someone’s wiffle ball set. One company that shares that mindset is Ryder Toys. Nick, who founded Ryder Toys started the company to create a spark of adventure and wonder with today’s kids.
