Five Songs That Will Help Your Workout

One of the things I can appreciate as a dad is getting to learn about new music from my kids. Yes, I know about the old trope where every generation thinks all that music from other generations is horrible. I am here to say that is not the case. On the flip side, my kids have enjoyed songs from my generation and I hear them playing my music from time to time. My youngest even listens to 2Pac at the gym. That got me thinking about some of my go to songs when I am working out. If you are getting back into the gym or working out from home, I hope these songs can help you when you are getting some exercise. Feel free to share your favorite gym songs in the comment section.

Five Songs That Will Help Your Workout

1. – Daft Punk – Daftendirekt

There are times when you get to the gym and you don’t want to be there. As you start warming up by walking on the track or stretching, Daftendirekt by Daft Punk can help you get right. It starts off slow just like when you are finding your workout groove. As the music starts speeding up, it has the same effect on you as well.

2. Blackway & Black Caviar – “What’s Up Danger” – Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

This is such a great song if you are doing some cardio. There are some highs and lows in just the right spots that help you on your run. The song motivates me to keep going and even makes me want to try to top my personal best. Once you hear it, you will put that song in your gym playlist.

3. S.O.B. –  Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats

This song is perfect for me when I am lifting weights. The song is about addiction, love, and personal struggles. You can hear the pain and strife in Rateliff’s vocals alone. It motivates me to get past the tough times especially when I’m lifting weights on my last set. The band says the song is an introspective look at weakness and the fear associated with life’s overwhelming challenges. I believe everyone feels that from time to time when they are working out.

4. Machinehead – Bush

Many people in my generation love this song. A lot of different meanings about Machine head have been talked about. Yet, it refers to the tuning pegs on a guitar. No matter how you interpret the song, this is another hit that you can use whether you are running on a treadmill or lifting weights. One of the things trainers tell people to do is breathe in, breathe out. The band tells you to do that during the song that acts as a friendly reminder.

5. Wicked Ones – Dorothy

To be fully honest, the first time I heard this song was in a commercial. In my defense it was for something you use when you are working out. The song was so good that I looked it up online to see who sang the song. I downloaded it right to my phone. This song is one of my secret weapon songs. If I am dragging through the workout or I want to stop running, I go to this song and it gives me the boost that I need.
