About Joonas Suotamo
Joonas Suotamo grew up in Espoo, Finland and first became interested in acting through his performances in local plays during his youth. Later on, a basketball scholarship offered him the opportunity to go and study at the Pennsylvania State University in the United States. During his time at university, Joonas chose film studies over acting because of the perceived lack of roles for tall people.
Never one to give up on his dreams, his film studies and interest in acting paid off when he was cast in the highly anticipated blockbuster movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens to act as the double for the iconic character of Chewbacca. After the film’s massive success, his hard work was awarded. Joonas became Chewbacca in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story. He will reprise his role in the final chapter of the trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker where he undoubtedly will once again bring to screen the Wookiee that we all love.
Follow Joonas on Twitter at @JoonasSuotamo and check him out in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 20th in theaters.
