Mulan Brings Honor And So Much More

Disney has recently been reimagining their classic animated films into live action movies. Mulan is the next chapter in this movement. My family and I have enjoyed the four previous ones. They were Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast, The Lion King and Aladdin. While I was watching Mulan with my family this past weekend I turned to them halfway through the movie and said this was the best live action Disney movie from this series.

You can win a digital code of Mulan. All you have to do is leave a review for the Art of Fatherhood podcast on iTunes or wherever you listen to podcasts. Just leave a comment below in this article on where you left a review. Good luck!

More Than Just Honor

Niki Caro who directs this film does an amazing job of bringing this animated film to life. There are a few changes from the animated film that adds to the story of Mulan. Yifei Liu plays Mulan brilliantly. She conveys the qualities of Mulan which are strong, loyal and brave. You see the conflict she feels without her even talking. My family and I really enjoyed her portrayal of Mulan.

As a parent I love when a movie teaches great values to my kids. Not only do we get to watch an entertaining film, but the movie allows us to talk after we see it and share our thoughts on it.  During her journey Mulan learns about herself and her family. She takes her father’s sword that has three words on the blade that embody their family’s values. The words are loyal, brave and true. She finds all three of these values during the film. This was a talking point after we finished watching the movie. We talked on what Mulan learned and applied it to our family.

You and your family will enjoy this version of Mulan. It has heart, laughs and meaningful messages throughout the film. You don’t need to have seen the animated series or know about Mulan’s story. It is a movie that can stand on its own. I have said this about Marvel movies and this rings true of Mulan. I highly recommend you and your family watching it this weekend on Disney+.
