This week’s for the Dads Doing It Right series I wanted to have fun with this week’s Dads Doing Right article. Since we are celebrating Star Wars Day, aka May The 4th I wanted to highlight some good dads or good father figurers in the Star Wars galaxy. If there are any other dads that you think we should check out leave their name and info in the comment section below.
Galen Erso – A Smart And Carrying Dad In A Galaxy Far, Far Away
A brilliant scientist, Galen Erso always wanted to take care and protect his family. He was coerced into using kyber crystals by his friend Orson Krennic that weaponized the Death Star’s super-laser. Galen fled to remote planet with his family, but Krennic tracked him down and forced him to resume his work. Krennic killed, Galen’s wife, but his daughter, Jyn was able to escape. He saved her from being connected to the Empire. He left a secret message just for her to help destroy the Death Star. She was able to fulfill her father’s work and help the Rebels destroy the Death Star.
Bail Organa – A Father Fit For A Princess
We might not have seen Bail in the Star Wars universe until the prequels, but we saw he and his wife’s impact they had on raising Princess Leia. She learned about navigating the world of politics, helping the voiceless and lead with a caring a heart. Bail’s fatherhood role helped out the galaxy by helping form Leia into the strong, determined and carrying leader that helped end the rule of the Empire.
Obi-Wan Kenobi – Stepping In For The Fatherless
Obi-Wan had a lot of pressure and expectations put on him. Not just once, but twice. He was first tasked to mentor and teach the chosen one, Anakin Skywalker. Anakin grew up as a slave and didn’t have a father. Now Kenobi has to not only teach Anakin the ways of the Force, but be a father figure to him. Unfortunately Anakin was being manipulated by Palpatine and Anakin gave into the Dark Side. After that Obi-Wan had to guide Anakin’s son, Luke Skywalker to become a Jedi to help defeat the Empire. Thankfully Kenobi was able to teach Luke without the influence of a Sith Lord. He did his best with both Anakin and Luke and tried to mentor each of the Skywalkers and thankfully his teaching got through to Luke.
Cham Syndulla – Leading The Way For Another Fierce Rebel Leader
For Cham his fatherhood journey was similar to Galen Erso’s and Bail Organa’s fatherhood journeys. Cham tried to raise his daughter, Hera the best he could while he was fighting the Empire. Even though their relationship was strained, Hera still followed in Cham’s footsteps. He helped her become the leader of a band of Rebels while piloting the Ghost. Hera’s role was crucial to the success of the Rebels defeat of the Empire.
