Andre Johnson Talks Fatherhood, Football And How His Daughter Inspired Him To Coach

Andre Johnson sits down with me to talk about his journey in fatherhood and how his daughter inspired him to become a coach for the Houston Texans after his fantastic career in the NFL. Andre spoke to me about how he and his daughter bond over football. We also talk about this time at the University of Miami as well as his playing days in the NFL. We finish the interview with the Fatherhood Quick Five.

About Andre Johnson

Andre Johnson is a member of the Houston Texans coaching staff following a 14-year playing career. Johnson spent the first 12 seasons of his career with the Texans after being selected with the third-overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. He is the franchise’s all-time leader in nearly every receiving category including career receptions (1,012), receiving yards (13,597), receiving touchdowns (64) and 100-yard games (51). He also holds numerous single-game records for the Texans, including the most receptions (14), receiving yards (273) and receiving touchdowns (three).

Johnson, who was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2019, played and started 169 games for the Texans from 2003-14 and led the team in receptions and receiving yards in 10 of those seasons. He set the single-season franchise record for receptions with 115 in 2008 and receiving yards with 1,598 in 2012. Johnson also had a stretch of 133 consecutive games played with a reception (11/6/05 to 12/21/14) and scored 64 career touchdowns with the Texans, which marks the second most in franchise history.

Johnson was named first-team All-Pro on two separate occasions and second-team All-Pro once. He also holds the NFL record for the most career games with at least 10 receptions and 100 yards receiving with 21. On Nov. 19, 2017, the seven-time Pro Bowler was inducted into the Texans’ Ring of Honor as the inaugural member. Prior to his NFL career, Johnson, a Miami native, played three seasons (2000-02) at the University of Miami, where he recorded 92 receptions for 1,831 yards and 20 touchdowns in 34 career games for the Hurricanes.
