Great Father & Daughter Duos In Sports

Muhammad & Laila Ali

Muhammad Ali is one of most iconic sports figures in history. He is an Olympic gold medalist, heavyweight champion, activist, and philanthropist. He made a name for himself in many areas. His daughter, Laila, became a professional boxer in 1999. Laila showed that she could hold her own and more! In her eight-year boxing career, she held the WBC, WIBA, IWBF, and IBA female super middleweight titles, as well as the IWBF light heavyweight title. They will go down as one of the best father and daughter duos in sports.

Dee And Lexie Brown

Dee Brown played 14 years in the NBA after being drafted in the first round by the Boston Celtics. He made the NBA All-Rookie team after averaging 8.7 points and 4.2 assists per game, and despite being 6-foot-1, won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. He played for Boston, Toronto and Orlando and finished with career averages of 11.1 points and 3.7 assists. Brown began his coaching career in the WNBA with the Orlando Miracle, and then for the San Antonio Silver Stars. I spoke with Dee and he is really cares about being a good dad! His daughter, Lexie, plays in the WNBA for the Los Angeles Sparks. She is a WNBA champion and has accomplished so much in college basketball and in the WNBA. Dee is a proud dad and is rooting for all of his kids in anything they pursue in life.

John Stephens played in the NFL. He was drafted in the first-round draft pick of the New England Patriots. As a rookie, he earned his Pro Bowl nomination and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, after he rushed for 1,168 yards and four touchdowns. He played for the Green Bay Packers for a season, then spent his final year in the league with the Kansas City Chiefs. His daughter, Sloane was born in 1993. Like her father, Sloane turned pro as an athlete, but she played tennis. Sadly John died in a car accident in 2009, and Sloane found out about his death while sitting in Arthur Ashe Stadium, home of the U.S. Open. “I didn’t think I would ever be able to regroup here, at this place,” Sloane said to Sports Illustrated. But in 2017, she won the U.S. Open at the age of 24. She carried the torch for the Stephens name is sports.
