A new week means a new post for Collector of the Week here at The Art of Fatherhood. As a fellow geek and collector of all things Pop Culture I wanted to showcase some cool collections that dads share in our community. We talk about the latest movies, cards, comic books and video games that we are enjoying at the moment.
This Week’s Collector – Brent Almond’s Legit Aquaman Collection
This week’s collection is from Brent Almond. He is a fellow dad writer. I have known Brent for a bit now. He is a creative guy and a great dad. He is sharing his Aquaman collection. You will enjoy his story and his collection. He even has Aquaman sneakers! That is fantastic. Here is what Brent wrote.
From the earliest age I can remember, Aquaman has been my favorite superhero. Unlike many other superhero fans, I’m often asked “Why?!?” I get that a lot of people think he’s a joke, but I think that’s part of what makes me an even bigger fan. He’s kind of an underdog — and for a long time, a bit obscure. I don’t meet other Aquaman fans often, so it feels like a secret society!
Then the movie came out a few years ago, which for many folks, made Aquaman cool for the first time. I’ve always thought he was cool, but I certainly never thought I’d live to see him make it to the big screen. What was even cooler was getting to share that experience with my son — dressing up in our Aquaman gear and attending the premiere together. Aquaman may not be my son’s favorite superhero, but he’s been raised to respect the King of Atlantis!
More On His Aquaman Collection.
I’ve also been collecting as long as I can remember. I have some action figures and glasses I’ve owned since the late seventies, as well as some things I had and lost as a kid I was able to repurchase on eBay. When we moved into our new house a few years ago, I had some custom shelves built along two of my office walls to display my ever-growing Aquaman collection. I’ve got pretty much every action figure, toy, LEGO, Funko, and plush ever made. Some favorite pieces include an original animation cell from the 1960s, a custom steampunk Aquaman robot, and a commemorative popcorn bucket from the Aquaman movie. The only thing I don’t display in my office are my Aquaman Underoos!
Oh yeah, I also have an Aquaman tattoo, inspired by his blue costume from a 1986 comic. It was created by one of the first out gay comics editors, Neal Pozner.
Thanks for sharing your fantastic Aquaman collection Brent. It is legit. Check out more on Brent over at his site, Designer Daddy.
