These Dads Are Doing It Right – Part 174 – Dads And Kids Giving The Gift Of Life 

This week for the These Dads Are Doing It Right series I wanted to showcase some dads and kids who are giving the gift of life. Whether dads are donating an organ to their kids or visa versa, these are heart-warming stories I wanted to share. Jon Montgomery’s Sons Give Him The Gift Of Life 

Jon Montgomery lost seventy-five pounds without trying two years ago. The family discovered that his liver and kidneys were deteriorating. Montgomery’s health continued to deteriorate, therefore he was added to the transplant list for dead donors. His family was informed about the prospect of a living donor transplant while he was in the hospital. His other son Christopher offered to donate a kidney to his father, and his son Jonathan immediately offered to donate a chunk of his liver. A double transplant that saved a life was carried out at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre on August 1. “My two boys, they sacrificed so much to do this for me, but two weeks later, three weeks later, they’re living their lives again,” Jon told a local reporter in Ohio. 

Lance Hubbard Donates Kidney To Son, Lance 

Nearly 10 years ago, Brodrick and his wife Kendria noticed their son, Lance beginning to develop alarming symptoms. Those systems included swelling of the hands and feet, loss of appetite and more. Doctors soon identified that Lance had kidney disease. In September of last year, Lance began a form of treatment called dialysis. which helps the body perform functions of the kidney, but impacts patients’ ability to urinate and comes with various side effects. In May of this year, the two underwent the transplant at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Both are doing well and his son, Lance sees his dad as a hero. 

Rhett Shaffette Donates Part Of His Liver To His Daughter 

Rhett Shafette’s daughter, Cecilia had been suffering since birth with biliary atresia. This disease is when bile ducts in the liver don’t form normally. It prevents the organ from functioning properly. Rhett stepped up and daughter is thriving, eight months after getting a portion of his liver. The Shaffette doesn’t take anything for granted now. They cherish family time and are grateful that the transplant worked out. 

Delayne Ivanowski Donates Her Kidney To Her Dad 

For almost a year, Delayne Ivanowski kept a secret from her dad that ended up saving his life. Delayne Ivanowski, a nurse at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, donated her kidney to her dad John Ivanowski. John told his daughter for months that he did not want her to be his donor. John Ivanowski was diagnosed two years ago with a type of kidney disease that can lead to kidney failure. The disease ultimately led John Ivanowski to be on dialysis for four to five hours, four days a week, a quality of life that his daughter said was not right for him. John is forever grateful to Delayne for what she did for him!
